Radio 1's Chart show is a three hour-long broadcast every Sunday afternoon from 4pm - 7pm. A three hour slot is not easy to fill under normal circumstances but the chart show has some help in the form of two main factors: 1.Instead of the traditional single presenter giving the run down of top 40, Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates team up to create an all-powerful banter machine. This unique combination of both a mix of races and of sex, is a popular one nation wide as the duo cover a much larger target audience than any single presenter can manage. 2. The show has a very positive and assertive structure of having to pack in the 40 most popular songs in Britain for that particular week. This not only gives the show a large amount of material provided, but adds aprehension and a lust for the knowledge of who will take the number one spot. The show starts with the number one hit from last week's show followed by a "sciencey bit" which consists of a series of facts about the up-coming show including the number of tracks gaining position, the number of tracks losing positions and the number of non-movers. This run of facts alone is a perfect example of how the duo's on air interaction is what makes the show so popular. A simple stream of monotinous facts would be incredibley boring to listen two, yet the confidence and humour applied to the reading of these facts by Fearne & Reggie is actually very funny to listen to. In conjunction with a number of interactive elements such as questions raised in the show being asked to the whole audience to gain a difinitive answer and fleeting snippits of national music information being given, the show is very well rounded and widely suitable making it a very popular show for Radio one bringing in a large amount of regular listeners.
